HOW wonderfully refreshing it was to see the Press photographs of the Queen and Prince Philip with Mr and Mrs Barack Obama. When I see a picture like this I not only feel proud but am convinced our close and valued ties with our friends in the "the land of the free" should be even further strengthened.

I get a much different feeling when I see members of our magnificent monarchy photographed with representatives of an indisputably anti-democratic European Union, whose workings are profoundly corrupt, its executive totally unaccountable, its bureaucracy so interfering and its laws so draconian that even criticism by an ex-employee could mean the loss of a pension.
