The wife of the author of The Horse Whisperer has called on the NHS to stop "wasting" organs which could be used for transplant.
Charlotte Gordon-Cumming and her husband, bestselling novelist Nicholas Evans, who live near Totnes in Devon, ate a toxic batch of deadly webcap mushrooms in 2008 and suffered kidney failure as a result. Having been on the organ donation list for around three years, Ms Gordon-Cumming has said that the waste of organs from deceased donors is "shocking".
