Summary


Eighteen months ago, under pressure from the Department of Health, the Cornish Primary Care Trust terminated its contract with Kernowdoc to provide GP out-of-hours services for Cornwall and installed profit-making company Serco in its place.

As predicted, Serco - legally obliged to prioritise shareholders' profits ahead of its newly acquired patients - failed consistently to deliver an adequate service, and on February 20 a team of Cornish MPs headed by Matthew Taylor (Truro and St Austell) tabled an adjournment debate in the House of Commons to discuss this woeful decline in services.
