Eighteen months ago, under pressure from the Department of Health, the Cornish Primary Care Trust terminated its contract with Kernowdoc to provide GP out-of-hours services for Cornwall and installed profit-making company Serco in its place.
As predicted, Serco - legally obliged to prioritise shareholders' profits ahead of its newly acquired patients - failed consistently to deliver an adequate service, and on February 20 a team of Cornish MPs headed by Matthew Taylor (Truro and St Austell) tabled an adjournment debate in the House of Commons to discuss this woeful decline in services.See the full content of this document
