You report on August 9, under the headline "Ending energy ban could save millions", that our Secretary of State for Energy, Chris Huhne, will overturn a law brought in by the Tory Government of 1989 which prevented councils selling electricity they might generate to the National Grid. It is not a good idea.
Ed Miliband, Huhne's predecessor in the Labour Government decreed that 2 per cent of the nation's electricity requirement should come from microgeneration and introduced a "feed-in tariff " of 41.3p per unit. This is, of course, an enormous subsidy. My electricity costs now are 12p a unit during the day and 5p at night (economy 7).See the full content of this document
