Summary
BLUSTERY day following heavy showers, and into the garden comes a flock of feral pigeons in neat formation and the roar of jet engines. For a second or two I was taken aback - but quickly realised that a passing jet on its way to land at Royal Marine Base, Chivenor, just over the river, had coincided with the birds landing at Feral Pigeon Base, Park Avenue.
Nice that, and for manoeuvrability and power to size ratio, as well as least damage to the environment, the pigeons win hands down - or wings down, shall we say? Nice to see a bank vole by west pond. It popped in and out of a rock crevice then sat preening its red fur on an old railway sleeper along one side of the water's edge. It is a blunt-nosed little mammal, quite different to the wood mice we have about.See the full content of this document
