Pirates Face Early Test in Defence of Their Trophy

Summary


Cornish Pirates are "excited" about the prospect of defending the British and Irish Cup they won in such splendid fashion at Camborne in May, according to Chris Stirling.

The high performance manager and his coaching staff have steered the Pirates' ship on an impressive course through the opening 14 rounds of the Championship, to the point where they are already virtually guaranteed a place in the promotion play-offs, with still eight matches in the regular league season remaining. Now, for the pre-Christmas run-in, they switch their attentions to the still fledgling cross-border competition, with attractive back-to-back home games against Scottish club side Currie tomorrow (2pm), and Irish province Leinster the following Sunday. Stirling said: "We are keen to keep hold of the silverware, for sure, and we are really excited about the Cup competition. It is a mindset change for us too.
