Precious Little Time Before the Training Starts Again

Summary

I last wrote just before the World Equestrian Games and you may well have seen that we did very well. Our eventers including the South West's Mary King and William Fox Pitt returned with team gold, with William also taking individual silver. It was also a really important competition for our dressage team, who after many years of hard work chasing the excellence of the Germans and the Dutch, have produced a strong and consistent performance to take team and individual silver. Our para dressage riders continued to dominate their sport with team gold and a whole host of individual medals.

All this bodes well for London 2012 which is now less than two years away and the attention now shifts to focus on this. Riders in all disciplines will be looking to have a strong season after a winter break to strengthen their position in the selector's eye, as that eight months of 2012 before the games will fly by. For now though, my main focus is on getting them all to relax as much as possible. Equestrian people are very good at rolling their sleeves up and "just getting on with it", but working and competing horses is hard work, and with constant training and travel, fatigue inevitably builds up.
