It took just six minutes from the moment a problem occurred on board RAF Nimrod XV230 before the plane exploded.
At 11.11am GMT on September 2 last year, the crew were two hours into an essential operational flight and had just completed air-to- air refuelling. Fire and smoke warnings were triggered simultaneously. Smoke began to fill the cabin and flames were seen from the rear of the engines on the starboard side.
