Claire is a popular and familiar figure at Ridgeway School, Plympton, who in 2004 was recognised as one of the top teachers in Britain, winning the UK Award for School and Community Involvement. An English teacher, she has been instrumental in building links between pupils at Ridgeway and in South Africa after a visit she made with other Teaching Award winners in 2005. Among other things, a tradition is growing of Ridgeway students working as classroom assistants in South Africa in their gap years.
