BRITISH politics united in tribute last night for one of the great radical idealists of a generation, Michael Foot, who has died aged 96.

Tributes flooded in from all sides of the political spectrum for the Plymouth-born former Labour leader, described as a "giant of the Labour movement" after his death was announced yesterday. Mr Foot, who was adored by the left-wing even in defeat and admired by the right, had a passion for politics that was perhaps equalled only by his life-long love of Plymouth Argyle Football Club, where he served on the club's board, with his directorship spanning two promotions.
