IT WAS heartening to read (WMN, August 7) that in September enthusiasts will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Bodmin and Wenford Railway with exhibitions and a host of steam-based activities in and around Bodmin and Wadebridge.
Few of the motorists who use the A369 linking the two towns probably realise that the rails in the hump of tarmac at Dunmere are relics of this historic 1834 route that was originally built with money given by Sir William Molesworth of Pencarrow, the 8th baronet and "Radical Aristocrat", to take sand dredged from the Camel estuary to surrounding farms, where it was used as a much-needed soil improver.See the full content of this document
