More foreign workers will be available to pick daffodils and riddle potatoes in the fields of the South West next year, as a result of an announcement by Home Office Minister Phil Woolas of an increase in the size of the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme quota.

Farming organisations and their industry partners joined forces to persuade Ministers there was a compelling case for the need to increase the SAWS quota to reflect the difficulties experienced in sourcing sufficient seasonal labour to harvest crops.
