Norman Lamb? Who is he? You might well ask. He is an obscure Liberal Democrat MP who happens to be chief political adviser to Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister. Why on earth should Mr Clegg, who has probably reached the peak of his career, want a political adviser at all, especially someone who has made barely any imprint on Westminster during all his years there? Mr Lamb has unexpectedly emerged from obscurity by threatening to resign (presumably as a political adviser) unless there is a major rethink over the comprehensive National Health Service reforms proposed. We are told that if he did take this action, it would be a massive blow to Mr Clegg's standing and would be damaging to the coalition Government as well. Utter tosh!
If Mr Lamb decided to fulfil his threat it would not make the slightest difference to Mr Clegg. He would simply find another backbencher to do the job (or non-job) or dispense with an adviser at all. And what would be the effect on the Government as a whole? Zero, I would say.See the full content of this document
