Summary
Eighteen rookie lifeguards have received their bronze awards at Lux Park Leisure Centre in Liskeard, South East Cornwall. The group is the first to earn the awards as part of Lux Park's new rookie lifeguard programme. The scheme aims to teach children aged eight to 12 essential water skills and what to do in an emergency. It includes swimming, lifesaving skills and water safety. Wendy McKay, Lux Park Leisure Centre's swimming coordinator, said: "We're delighted with the progress our first rookie lifeguards have made, and we hope they will go on to achieve their silver and gold awards."
