Summary
Perfectly plain and serviceable, the 19th century salt box in oak available in Charterhouse Auctioneers, Sherborne two day sale, starting on Thursday, would have been an ordinary kitchen piece when made. Now it has wider appeal being undecorated except for a shaped foot.
At 8in (20cm) wide x 16in (40cm) high, this old kitchen accessory has a guide of pounds70-pounds90, which should also acquire the pair of 6.5in (16.5cm) high turned Serpentine candlesticks, that were made at roughly the same time. With more decoration and care taken over all its manufacturing, the Regency penwork box with a decoration of flowers and shells will need at least pounds150- pounds250, as it also has a fitted interior divided for playing cards.See the full content of this document
