I have to admit to being surprised by the debate which has arisen from certain quarters with regards to the new school-based stop smoking programme known as DECIPHer ASSIST, which involves a select group of school children being provided with the skills and knowledge to engage with their peers and influence better, healthy choices in relation to smoking.

There has been some bold criticism of the programme, as essentially wasting schools' money, wasting teachers' and pupils' time, and delivering no benefit.
