Afascinating collection of letters and photographs from Westcountry-born explorer Captain Robert Scott's first Antarctic expedition has fetched pounds6,000 at auction. The unique collection relating to the 1901 to 1904 expedition went under the hammer in Dorset.

Plymouth-born Captain Scott led the expedition in which James Dell, who served on the Discovery and became friends with the young explorer Ernest Shackleton, collected the documents.
