Summary


Last night the lady who is our local parish clerk lay battered, sobbing and freezing in a Madrid park. She and her husband had been robbed. The Spanish police had taken details, but weren't really able to help.

Having read their desperate email I decided to phone their home - which may seem a strange thing to do, but after three attempts (because the line was engaged) I got through. Pam, as I suspected, wasn't in Madrid at all. She explained she'd been inundated with calls from concerned folk who - like me - had not been fooled by the email.
