We Should Welcome Second Home Owners ; Letters

Summary

Letters and articles such as today's report concerning a law to limit second home ownership annoy me. I have only one home, it is all I can afford, but I do not grudge those who have the means for a holiday home. Many of these people have bought and restored almost derelict properties which locals have rejected but could have rescued. The result is a property that enhances the area. These same holiday makers spend money first to do up the property then on local grown food and entertainment, in the pubs and restaurants.

I and my family have lived down here since 1956 (we came for health reasons) and it has never been easy. Local people, especially in the Tamar Valley, (not so much Exeter) are very hostile towards people from other regions. Then why is it that other places that attract second home owners extend a friendly welcome to strangers? ie Yorkshire, Cumbria.
