Hearing on the radio the death of Sir Norman Wisdom, took me back to the first time I saw the little clown. It was at the Grand Theatre in Blackpool in 1948 in a show called Buttons and Bows by Henry Hall, the famous BBC Dance Orchestra leader turned impresario. Top of the bill was an unlikely 'pop' star called Donald Peers.
Norman was bottom of the bill and was attired in a khaki pullover down to his knees and trousers to match, he did his falling about for about four minutes and was gone. I saw him later in the 80s when he came to Wantage in Oxfordshire to open the Normans food store. He never stopped being the entertainer and surely one of the last of his kind.See the full content of this document
