Skills Gap Widens As Jobs Are at Risk

Summary


AS many as 5,200 jobs are "at risk" in the region, as recession causes a widening skills gap in the South West's engineering sector.

Yesterday, the sector skills council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies (Semta) warned that about 1,250 companies in the Westcounty were in danger of "failing", due to a slump in hiring, training and a failure to bridge the skills gaps in their workforces.
