F iddle player extraordinaire Dave Swarbrick is flexing his bow to roll back the years and perform some rare shows with Whippersnapper, one of the best-loved folk bands of the 1980s, including a date at The Poly in Falmouth. The former Fairport Convention member, whose career spans more than 50 years, is looking forward to teaming up with Chris Leslie, Martin Jenkins and Kevin Dempsey to revive an acoustic sound that was enormously popular on the folk scene - but it's going to be hard work too.
"It's such complicated music," admits Dave from his home in Coventry, where the band are rehearsing in his studio. "Even 20 years on it is challenging. It's traditional and string-based, but with funky arrangements. You have to be pretty qualified to play it... and to listen to it.
