Summary
A serving soldier accused of raping a woman in Torquay has been cleared after the prosecution offered no evidence. David Lamprey, 29, from Braunton in North Devon, had previously denied a count of rape relating to an alleged incident in the resort on October 18 last year. A trial was due to take place at Exeter Crown Court in November and the case was listed at the same court yesterday for a brief hearing.
But prosecutor Ian Fenny said following "extensive" discussions and investigations with police and other parties, the Crown would offer no evidence in the case and Lamprey should be cleared of the charge. Mr Fenny said the Crown "has come to the conclusion it was inappropriate" to take the case to trial.See the full content of this document
