'Some Firms Will Go Down'

The reliance of the Westcountry's economy on thousands of small businesses instead of a handful of big name firms could help the region fare better in the recession, a senior economist said last night.

Nigel Jump, chief economist of the South West Regional Development Agency, said when job losses were announced in the Westcountry they tended to be for quite small numbers in single or double figures instead of thousands.
