There is no other reason to support Truro Eastern Green Scheme than to make money. Anyone who thinks the park and ride is going to cut the time and ease traffic when coupled with Waitrose and buses having priority is misguided. Sadly farmers virtually all from "down west" and "up north" do not care a fig for the poor farmer who is going to lose one fifth of his farmland. And with Waitrose taking Pounds 19 million out of the city centre it will mean slaughter for the shops there. The 200 jobs will be 150 shelf stackers and 50 management staff brought in from "up country", I bet. The project is estimated at Pounds 40 million. How many truly affordable homes would that build? Two aspects of this situation strike at the very heart of democracy. The first is councillors stating their own opinion as if it were the majority view when it is the exact opposite. The second is that we shall never know what canvassing, if any, has gone on behind closed doors at County Hall. If the strategic planning committee approve this scheme, then we will have our suspicions. I hope that integrity will prevail and that the weight of the Duchy and Waitrose, who care not for Truro, will be rebuffed on December 15.
