There was a splendid column by Ian Pettyfer in the WMN2 Farming section on February 4 that suggested it was time to bid Hilary Benn goodbye. I think he should have gone a bit further and suggested it is time for the Common Agricultural and Fisheries Policies also to be told it is time to say goodbye.

The UK accepted, in a referendum, being part of a free trade area, but the CAP and CFP are to do with control over our food. It makes sense from a European Union point of view that countries with large areas should attempt to squash rich countries like the UK so that their farmers and fishermen have a larger export market.
