Summary
BLEAK. The weather that is, not the dainty and frolicsome little fish of the same name. We had been out along the banks of a tributary river of the River Taw and there were two Bewick's swans on the mud, both adults. The Bewick's is the smallest of our three swans, with a more rounded head than the Whooper swan.
At around 48in (120cm), it is a compact looking bird with a shortish, straight neck and a yellow patch at the base of its bill, smaller and rounder than that of the whooper though both birds' bills are otherwise black.See the full content of this document
