Swimmer Rescued After Search

Summary

A swimmer had to be rescued by helicopter after getting into trouble off the Devon coast. Portland Coastguard scrambled a helicopter after a man in his late 20s was reported missing for an hour-and-a-half after leaving his clothes on the beach at Seaton, East Devon, around 7.15pm yesterday. Just after the lifeboat at Lyme Regis was also sent to his aid, the helicopter spotted the man, from Seaton, about a mile out to sea. After being winched into the helicopter, he was flown to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester because of the amount of sea water he had swallowed. He was not thought to be injured.
