While i am sure many readers have sympathy with the fishermen of Helford, their situation does need to be looked at in the context of recent history.

After the war, waterside cottages in places like Helford, Falmouth, St Ives, Padstow, Newton Ferrers, Looe etc. could be bought for just a few hundred pounds and, inland, even cheaper. There are plenty of records of cottages selling for less than pounds100 right up until the 1960s. Even well into the 1980s cottages could be bought for a fraction of the price they command to- day.
