As the 10th anniversary of the 2001 foot and mouth disease epidemic gets ever nearer, so, I regret to say, does the disease itself.
The outbreak in Turkey has spread over the borders of the EU and into Bulgaria. A wild boar shot on December 30 was found to be infected - although no one knew about it until January 5 - and on January 9, surveillance tests revealed disease in 26 goats, 20 sheep, one cow and - most worrying of all, because of the amount of virus they produce - eight pigs.See the full content of this document
