Summary
Oh dear, here we go again. I sometimes despair when that tiresome old myth of the British people having an immigrant-based multicultural history is dug up yet again for another desperate airing.
And it is particularly sad to see our very own favourite columnist indulging in this form of deluded thinking. It is simply a falsehood to say that "the history of these islands has been shaped from its earliest times by immigrants of every origin" (Neil Young, October 21). Perhaps I could refer him to the present day work of those better qualified to comment on such matters, like anthropologist Stephen Oppenheimer (Myths of British Ancestry, Prospect magazine, October 2006).See the full content of this document
