Conservative Gordon Oliver has been elected as the new mayor of Torbay.

Mr Oliver, a well-known businessman in the area, beat the incumbent Nick Bye, an Independent, to the title in only the second mayoral election for the Devon resort. Torbay is the only area in the greater South West with an elected mayor, but the Government is looking to roll out the position across the country.
