I TAKE umbrage at Mr Tom Smith's letter about water charges and the Conservatives. Has he not been a reader of the Western Morning News? I have been commenting upon the unfair level of water charges we pay in the South West since I have been a candidate (selected November 2006).

I have challenged these bills on the same grounds as other parties' MPs in the South West (the unfairness of the cost of the coastal clean-up being left to us alone).
