WHAT THE Labour Party needs more than anything else is a good dollop of common sense and less fancy footwork, to ensure it can make a decent fight of the next General Election. Its members should stop wasting their substance on focus groups and cease the practice - of which some of the party's more hysterical MPs have been guilty - of flouncing out of the Government in a huff.
I am more convinced than ever that the man who can put Labour back on track is that old bruiser John Prescott, the former Deputy Prime Minister. He has had years of experience keeping apart those old adversaries Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.
