Journalistic duties for the WMN's Contested Landscape series recently took me to Wembury on a beautiful sunny day, and only a fool or someone hard pressed for time would ignore the chance to go for a seaside stroll around this beautiful district close to Plymouth.

That's been made a lot easier to do in the last couple of years since the National Trust acquired the big parcel of land at Wembury Point from the Ministry of Defence - but I started this round the village hike by heading in completely the opposite direction I left my car down at the trust's seaside car park thinking, as I always do when I come here, that it's hard to believe this lovely bay is not much more than a seagull's wing-beat from Plymouth.
