Summary


The Cornwall County Council vote for unitary status by the Liberal Democrat group and its hangers-on is the biggest sellout of Cornwall, her people and ratepayers in a long time.

The so-called savings amount to less than 1 per cent of the total rates bill (county, district and town/parish councils). Far from cutting bureaucracy, the proposals will set up "community networks", effectively mini quangos in the making.
