Summary


Never a slow news week, this. Even in the absence of wars, famine and revelations about the dodgy doings of the "friends" of MPs there are always a few old favourites to fill the column inches.

On Monday, for example, there was the chance to wring hands about the increasing Americanisation of trick or treating Halloween and coming up we have Guy Fawkes Night when the politically correct will question the wisdom of burning Roman Catholics and scaring the animals with fireworks. And, of course, as our bodies try to adjust to a return to GMT, there is the perennial debate over the precise point on the dial our clocks should be set as the nights draw in ever quicker.
