Summary
Following the very successful adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's book, The War Horse, to the stage and now to a Steven Spielberg's epic film, which you featured recently (WMN Dec 13), I thought the story of my great uncle William Berriball might be of some interest.
William came from the Tavistock area of West Devon where his family had farmed for many years. He had three older sisters, the eldest, Emily, being my grandmother He owned his own horse and prior to the First World War, like so many patriotic young farmers and landowners, he would spend a few days each year. together with his horse, training with the Devon Yeomanry.
