I FEAR that we will never be told the full truth about the "inexplicable" and tawdry release of the Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi. The whole disgraceful affair gets murkier as each day passes. Business Secretary Lord Mandelson fiercely denies that the British government had done a deal to free him, insisting that it was "offensive" to suggest any such thing. Yet the messages coming from Tripoli suggest the very reverse.
Who are we to believe? At the time of writing, the Prime Minister has not uttered so much as a syllable on this issue.
