I WONDER how many of us have sat and thought about the countless consumer reports and house price indices and thought "wait just one minute". Just 18 months ago, before house prices plummeted, they all talked the housing market up alongside the economy when the reverse was blatantly obvious.

While many in the Press have been blamed for talking the economy down, it's their past in reporting everything on the way up that is most at fault. Lessons need to be learned about what truly should be reported and who should be listened to - especially where there is a vested interest.
