Summary
I HAVE every sympathy with farmers in their wish to eradicate bovine TB, but can't help wondering what will happen if badgers are killed off and it is subsequently found that TB continues to affect the cattle.
Do the farmers then say "Oh well, never mind, they were only badgers" and try to find something else to blame? Or do the animal rights people try to reinstate the badger population by importing badgers from abroad, as is being attempted with beavers, and would the reintroduction face similar opposition from landowners? I have no ready answer, but would just point out that once the badgers are gone they will almost certainly be gone for good. I for one would miss old "Brock".See the full content of this document
