Everyone agrees economic development will be a crucial part of recovery from the recession - but, as yet, there is little clarity about how this will be delivered.
Business Secretary Vince Cable has said that most, but not all, of the nine Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) will be replaced by Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). The exact nature of how LEPs will be constituted and run has yet to be revealed but they have been described as a partnership between businesses and the local authorities. They are likely to cover smaller areas than those served by the RDAs, which came into existence in 1999.See the full content of this document
