AFEW years ago, few bothered about the organic food movement except to mock those enthusiasts such as the Prince of Wales who they described as cranks. As history will prove, Prince Charles was a pioneer - because of his staunch support, the issue of organic has now become a major debate about the crops we grow and the food we eat.

Until the onset of the recession, the organic movement was on an upward trajectory; the number of people who chose to grow or consume organic produce had risen at a dramatic rate, a phenomenon that forced everyone involved at every stage in the food chain to rethink the basic assumptions of the past 50 years.
