Summary
Colin Bradley's review of Bomber Boys: Fighting Back, 1940-1945 does much to answer the criticisms of our modern "armchair heroes" who attack the men of Bomber Command who obeyed orders and despite almost impossible odds succeeded in shortening the war by their activities.
We were off the Normandy coast in June 1944 with engines stopped, waiting to begin operations when we heard the comforting sound of hundreds of bombers crossing the Channel to bomb coastal defences and bridges, preparing the way for the troops to land on the French beaches.
